A step-by-step guide to using SecureDrop to share tips with The Globe
Note that this Globe and Mail SecureDrop overview is from February 2016 and updates have been made to the software. This is however a great initial overview of how media organizations and whistleblowers can use SecureDrop to securely and anonymously share documents.
Translate SecureDrop
1. Create a Weblate Account for SecureDrop's Weblate:
- SecureDrop is translated via SecureDrop's own instance of Weblate. You will need to create an account before you can contribute.
- Take a look at the Weblate documentation to learn how to use Weblate.

- Review the key terms used in the SecureDrop platform before you begin translating so that you fully understand how they will be used. Note: the SecureDrop glossary available in the SecureDrop documentation does not contain translated terms, it only overviews how the key terms are used in the platform to provide the contributor with context.
4. Demo SecureDrop:
- Test out the SecureDrop platform! This is an important step that will familiarize you with the tool and let you see original English strings in context.
5. Review the Translation and Review Guidelines:
- Make sure you are familiar with the Translation Guidelines before you begin translating. They contain important information like whether or not to translate or transliterate the Project name.
